Happy New Years to all of my esteemed industry colleagues! While the cable news network are projecting gloom and doom across all industries, I truly believe that ours is a “recession proof” business. When consumers cannot purchase as many high end items or luxury goods, there is always room in the budget for new lipstick, eye shadows or a “just can’t do without” anti aging eye cream! When botox aficionado’s decide to stretch their appointments a month or two longer than normal…. there is still room in their wallet for state of the art line smoothing or wrinkle relaxing cosmetic creams and lotions, right? Consumers will always find a way to spend on the goods and services that make them feel better about themselves, even…often… at the detriment or neglect of other more practical purchases. Wouldn’t you agree? So, let’s get out there and use the power of blogs, advertising, and good old word of mouth “buzz” marketing campaigns to remind our customers that there are still retail purchases that are affordable and uplifting. And those comprise a friendly 6 letter word: B-E-A-U-T-Y We need to find a way to tug at consumer’s hearstrings and remind them of how good it feels to spend a little bit for a huge self esteem boost, in return! And, at the same time, we’ll be securing and strengthening our jobs and helping to reduce the number of downsizing’s like mine this week.
